What 90s basketball streetwear actually looks like
The 90s look on the court and off it came down to size and attitude. Everything ran big. Baggy jeans or sweats, long tees, heavy hoodies, team jackets, a fitted cap. Varsity and baseball jackets came off the bleachers and onto the block. Graphics were loud: big script, chrome lettering, team-style crests.
The playground side was its own thing. The stars were on TV, but every neighborhood had its own legends on the park court, the ones who never made the league but everybody on the block knew. That's the idea behind Playground Myth. Started last. Finished loud.
How to put the playground look together
- Start with the jacket. A two-tone varsity or a washed baseball jacket is the centerpiece. Go loose.
- Keep the base plain and baggy. A long tee or a heavy hoodie, relaxed jeans or joggers, clean sneakers.
- One loud piece. If the jacket has a full back graphic, keep the tee quiet. If the tee is the statement, wear a calmer jacket.
- Repeat one color once. Red sleeves on the jacket, a touch of red on the shoes. That's enough.

New York has always had a street ball culture of its own, with park courts in every borough and games that drew crowds without a camera in sight. Playground Myth is our nod to that. It's a league that never had a league, for the players who got picked last and kept showing up anyway.

A classic letterman with a wool body and leather sleeves can easily cost a few hundred dollars.
