Big chrome letters across the chest, UNBREAKABLE in red under them, and the word’s whole journey laid out beneath: Greek adamas to Latin adamas to Old French diamant to the English diamond, which turned up in the mid-1300s. The back says it plain: the word diamond means unbreakable.
The history is real. The Greeks used adamas for the hardest material they could imagine, the stuff that would not bend or break. The name travelled through Latin and Old French and became the word for the hardest stone on earth. So every time someone says diamond, they are saying unbreakable.
